Lately, in Hong Kong, all the popular actors (siu sung) like Roger Kwok, Bowie Lam, Moses Chan, Joe Ma, and Kevin Cheng, who just became famous, are all passed 30 years old, releasing mature men scent. There seem to be very little of actors who are twenty something.
Raymond Lam, who is twenty six, is Hong Kong's unique one who is being promoted. Just became an actor and had succeed, in "Step Into The Past", "Twin of Brother", and "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion" had act as ancient heroes; in ther series Hong Kong had just aired "La Femme Desperado", Raymond Lam portrays as a character who had a crush on his tutor for many years, and had bravely confessed, but got rejected. However, he had not given up on this relationship, and his acting skill was praised by others. That series had won <> which had the cast of Bowie Lam, Moses Chan, etc. Raymond had finally won for actors around his age. Lately, Raymond is not dating, and had not been fighting with swords, but he is filming a series named "Tai Chi" with Chiu Mun Cheuk, and showed real Kung-Fu. To make it more realistic, Raymond spent time and learned Kung-Fung. "Being an artist must be good in everything, learning Kung Fu can train body, and will be useful in the future" Raymond must have a reason to be unique in the youth artists group.
Real Kung Fu No Special Animations/Graphics
Raymond joined TVB's "actors training course" in 1998, and because he is fluent with Mandarin, in 1999, he became TVB8's MC. 8 months later, his acting career began. In 2000, he is already "A Step Into The Past" 's second main character, and had take roles in many other ancient series. His roles are either young guys who are cool but good, or ancient heroes who helps everyone, he doesn' t need to laugh or smile. However, lately, his characters are starting to change, like in last year's "Yummy Yummy", he was a rich guy (Ngo Siu), in "La Femme Desperado" he acted as a guy around his age that has a sister-brother relationship (Chai Foon), which made his acting more natural. However, Raymond's back to being a "hero" lately, and is working with Chiu Mun Cheuk in "Tai Chi". Even though it's another action series, but Raymond had a new experience, "In the ancient action series before, mostly there are weapons, to do sword fighting in front of cameras, but it's just not very realistic; however, in "Tai Chi", it's all real Kung-Fu without any animations or graphics added. Whether if you are good or not, it would all be shown to the audience and can't lie about it"
Raymond thinks that, out of all his series now, he is most satisfied with "Twin of Brothers" and Lethal Weapons, and has hopes on "Tai Chi", because the character is very similar to his own personality, so he hopes audience will like it.
Learning Kung-Fu, Can't Mess Up
About his partner Chiu Mun Cheuk, Raymond thinks he is a good teacher, "First time meeting him, seeing his muscles kind of frightened me. However, after knowing him more, I found out that he is kind and friendly, and is willing to teach the younger ones. While filming action scenes, he knows how to help others and will teach them how to fight better, so the results will satisfy.
To portray his character better, Raymond took extra time to learn Kung-Fu and understood that Kung-Fu is not easy. "There are a lot of expectations in real Kung-Fu. The base of the legs have to be strong, and cannot mess up on any of the moves. To make it perfect, sometimes I have to ask Chiu Mun Cheuk and practice everyday. Sometimes I could feel the muscle pains when I walk up and down the stairs"
Even though learning Kung-Fu is hard, but Raymond sees it as a good chance to train himself, "Learning Kung- Fun can train my flexibility, and his reactions would be faster, and I believe that I will need it sometime in my career." However, he laughs that now he can stop learning Kung-Fu for now and learn other new skills, such as singing.
Raymond says that he hopes to have a CD this year, but he understands that to sing a song seriously really have to spend a lot of time to practice the technique and skills. "I always practice singing, of course it's best if I play the piano and sing along, but because I film series in Mainland, it's hard to find a piano, so I practice it while singing Karaoke. Earlier in Shanghai, I had met a famous singing teacher to learn singing, the teacher said I don't have enough air, but my voice is mature now. Maybe it's because I yell a lot during filming, so my voice changed."
Being Separated, Learned To Cherish
Frequently filming series in Mainland, seeing family members' chances are very little. Raymond says, "For my work, I can't say anything about it". Raymond tells that his relationship with his family is very well, and has a special feeling with his father who does business, " I know that my father wants me to help with business, because I'm the oldest son, but he had never said so. He doesn't watch television much, but th series I'm in, he would record it. He will not disturb my work, and that is my biggest support."
This year's Lunar New Year, Raymond's family went to Shanghai to visit Raymond, and he was very touched, "Family is valuable, nothing can replace it. Because we are separated, I cherish every moment with my family."
Raymond in "La Femme Desperado" had a sister-brother relationship with Melissa Ng, being asked if he minds it in reality, he says, "I don't mind about sister-brother relationship, if she is 3-5 years older than me, it's not a big problem. Our thoughts would be close, and it's easier to communicate with her, and would not have a big distance in between." However, he adds, "Older than me or younger than me, it doesn't really matter, I've been working in Mainland, rarely in Hong Kong, to keep a relationship would be hard. Who would want to date me?! Love, just let fate decide."
Skin Care: Natural Beauty
Working hard nonstop, Raymond's way of reducing pressure is quite simple, "Eat with friends, chat, to me is already a good way to reduce my pressure. I also like to shop around to look for cool new products, but there's too much paparazzi lately, so I had given up on this hobby."
Raymond's way of taking care of his skin is very easy also, "Every artist loves beauty, but I don't especially take care of my skin. Never put on a mask for more than 10 times. Never did facial for more than 5 times. I like natural beauty, as long as I'm clean then it's okay."
Raymond's happy, that Malaysian fans are loving with passion. Everytime he visits, he is always touched, so he hopes to film different kind of series to let his fans see the other sides of him. He says laughing that he hopes he can have a vacation in Malaysia, and enjoy the sun and beach, but he's worried that his work is too busy, so might not have the time to."
Epilogue
Recently, Raymond films series in Mainland more, jobs are one after another, rarely in Hong Kong anymore. He only stayed in Hong Kong for 3 days to promote "La Femme Desperado".
In all this busy work, Raymond took one hour for this interview in this particular mall. During the interview, there's another 30 something fans that came to see Raymond, and had cause some difficulties, and have to had to securities to keep it safe. However, Raymond still continue to put some really hot poses. After the interview, he smiled and signed autograph for everyone of those fans, and took photos. Raymond's kind, friendly personality is the reason why he is attractive.

Fung's Label, Raymond's previous official website and its
webmistress, Sasa, for providing so much of Raymond's news and
information. Without FL, many of Raymond's fans would've been
like little losties, without any clue as to where to find
Raymond's news. FL kept us informed and updated for a total of
2 years. It officially closed on the 21st August 2006, but I
would still always remember it.
